The Coyote Factor
The June edition of the Georgia Sportsman printed a story titled "The Coyote Factor". It focused on the fawn mortality rate in areas that were trapped for predators, vs areas that were not trapped. One of the sutidies cited was conducted thru the UGA.
The story says that in northeast Alabama, a university grad student, Cory VanGilder, under the direction of Drs. Karl Miller, and Grant Woods, conducted a study attempting to increase fawn survival through predator removal.
The property was intensively trapped for predators, especially coyotes on the 2,000 acre study site. 22 coyotes, and 10 bobcats were removed. Not surprisingly the number of fawns per doe more than doubled the year following the trapping effort.
If you watched Clint's video " Year Long Blitzkrieg" you wll have come to realize it was one of Clint's jobs. In 2005 I had similar results from a job on a hunting club in s.e. Georgia. After taking several coyotes, and cats from the property, surprise ! The number of fawns was up the following season. Good job Clint !!! BTW, How did Cory do skinning those yotes ? Jack.

Trapping hard helps the land owners, and we trappers should not be quiet about it.
